The GEO Story

“If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”

– Adage

There is a way to change the future. The children are the way. Teach them to fly. Bringing education is the mission.

“Teach a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

– Proverbs 22:6

A message from Fr. Miguel Alvizures, Cofounder

This is the story of Guatemalan Educational Outreach (GEO), founded by Forrest Day and Fr. Miguel Alvizures. Growing up in Guatemala, Father Miguel was the only person in his class to make it all the way through high school, and subsequently the only one to go to college. Recognizing the difference that his own education made in opening up opportunity, Father Miguel desired to help the children of Guatemala with a good education. He shared this desire with Forrest Day, whom he met in Lexington, Kentucky, and together they launched GEO. We invite you to join us in realizing this vision of educating the children of Joya Honda, Guatemala, to expand their opportunity to reach for a better life and climb out of poverty.
